SKIING AND SAILING IN SVALBARD, NORWAY

Trip Overview:

Embark on an unforgettable Arctic adventure combining the thrill of backcountry skiing with the unique experience of sailing through the breathtaking landscapes of Svalbard. Join us aboard the Valiente for an exclusive journey that promises pristine slopes, majestic fjords, and the untouched beauty of the High Arctic.

Itinerary:

  • Welcome to the Arctic! You'll arrive in Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world. After settling into our accommodations at the Radisson Blu, Spitsbergen, we take the rest of the day to explore the town, acclimate to the Arctic environment, and get to know your fellow adventurers. For motivated guests, we will be renting snowmobiles and heading out on short ski tours in the vicinity of Longyearbyen. We will have a welcome dinner this evening at one of the restaurants in town.

  • After picking up snowmobiles, rifles, and ensuring our gear has arrived in good shape, we will head out on a couple full day snowmobile accessed ski tours, or two half day tours depending on groups motivation and current conditions. All meals are included.

  • This morning we plan to get out for an early snowmobile accessed ski tour, before returning to pack up and prepare for sailing. We meet up on the Valiente at 1400 hrs, and begin navigating the icy waters of the Svalbard archipelago. As we sail, keep an eye out for wildlife such as polar bears, seals, and seabirds. We'll anchor in a remote fjord where we'll spend our first night onboard.

  • Our first ski tour will take us into the pristine Arctic wilderness. Depending on the conditions, we'll choose routes that offer the best snow and views. After a day of skiing, return to the ship for a warm meals, hanging out with the other passengers, and rest.

  • We'll sail to another part of the archipelago, where we'll embark on a ski tour to explore glaciers and peaks. Each day offers new terrain and spectacular scenery. Evening briefings will help us plan the next day's adventures.

  • Today's focus will be on accessing some of the most remote skiing areas in Svalbard. The untouched slopes provide a unique skiing experience. Additionally, we'll spend time observing the diverse Arctic wildlife in its natural habitat.

  • We visit historical sites related to Svalbard's exploration history, combined with ski touring in the surrounding areas. Learn about the rich history of Arctic exploration and how it has shaped the region.

  • Our final day of skiing will be a culmination of the week’s adventures, choosing the best spot for a memorable ski tour. Enjoy the last day of Arctic skiing before returning to the ship for our final evening together.

  • We sail back to Longyearbyen, reflecting on the incredible experiences and sights of the past week. Upon arrival, you'll have time to pack and prepare for your departure.
